The History of Airsoft

From the birth of a hobby to a worldwide team culture.

Airsoft is a hobby and sport enjoyed through target shooting, collecting and team games using replicas that fire plastic BBs. Modern airsoft culture has its roots in the replica hobby developed in Japan.

Spring and gas systems featured prominently in the early years; the development of electric systems helped the hobby reach a wider audience. As Asian manufacturers and international sellers grew in number, airsoft developed distinctive playing cultures in different countries.
