Airsoft began in Japan and reached communities across Asia, Europe and North America as a hobby and sport. A wide range of manufacturers, playing fields and international events has helped different countries develop their own playing cultures.
Japan
Japan has an important place in the history of airsoft. Manufacturers such as Tokyo Marui have contributed to the development of electric and gas replica systems.
Hong Kong and Taiwan
Manufacturers, shops and international distribution networks make these important centres of the airsoft ecosystem.
United Kingdom
Alongside player communities and fields, organisations such as UKAPU and UKARA serve different purposes. UKAPU is a players' association; UKARA provides information about retailers and the associated player verification system.
North America
A large airsoft community has developed around shops, playing fields and milsim events.
Europe
Germany, France, Poland and other countries have their own field rules and player communities.

Differences Between Countries
Rules on replica sales, appearance, energy limits, transport and field use may differ between countries. Before attending an event abroad, check the organiser's rules and current official regulations in that country.
